Do you remember this stage which gave the movie industry to make series of superheroes? Because this series belongs to this amazing category. Misfits or misfits, in Spanish, is a series produced by the BBC featuring 5 Seasons. The episodes are one hour in duration and is categorized, with all the reason in the world, for over 18 years.
The Misfits premise is simple: six young criminals gather to make their services to the community. These guys represent perfectly the collective young teenager with masterfully constructed personalities:
- Alisha (Antonia Thomas) she’s a beautiful girl, presumed and young who love the party, lie down with thousand guys and be greatly desired. It is popular, fun and irresponsible, but it also tends to judge people and be somewhat “bitchy” from time to time.
- Curtis (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett) it is a promising runner from athletics who sees how his life ended, being expelled from his own team, to bring a little coca any night at a party.
- Simon (Iwan Rheon) is a young freaky, freak, passionate of the audiovisual, without friends or self-esteem. Uncomfortable surrounded by people and is often victim of bullying and teasing.
- Kelly (Lauren Socha) represents all the collective “choni“. Violent, somewhat male, direct, honest and deeply romantic on the inside of your heart.
- Nathan (Robert Sheehan) it is a real idiot: outgoing, little empathetic, cruel, direct, Joker and half the time you feel embarrassed by the stupidities that said (and even so, it is the best character by far).
They do not know each other, but soon you will see that your life is completely linked by chance of fate: while they are working, a horrible storm of hail impacts directly on them and given super powers based on their personalities.
Will soon learn that, in real life, have superpowers can be really horrible. Alisha, who liked so much be desired by men, now has the power that when others touch it immediately feel desire to sleep with her. They do it because they want to or because they want it… only it is a momentary influence of his power.
Kelly, who lived in a bubble of stupidity, soon discovers that he can read the horrible thoughts that others have on it. Thoughts that make you finish cutting with her boyfriend and falling into a horrible depression. Curtis can go back in time… not when he wants, but at very random times based on the stress or the emotive, that is. Simon, which always feels ignored and underestimated, now has the wonderful ability to become invisible. And Nathan… well, Nathan seems not can do anything other than annoy the rest, spend jokes and be what the British call, an authentic “prick”. The sixth… well, the sixth forget. The pilot of the series already tell you what is happening with him.
Within this horrible feature that involves having powers, be criminals, realizing that no one understands them or supporting them and having to deal with each home drama, the five eventually United by even bigger secret that will cause them to be faithful to the other in all kinds of situations.
The first season of Misfits is a masterpiece film. For the budget which had, managed to extract the essence of modern and youth crime in a really brilliant way. They collect all the problems facing the boys and girls of today in day wrapping everything in own charisma to the irresponsibility of the age awards. They often clash with their agents in the conditional, who try by all means to understand how it can be so thoughtless and seek their reinsertion in society… in a way or another.
Misfits addresses the issue of powers from a realistic, cold and dirty tonic. Not all the powers are practical or useful. For starters, they can be used in many different ways and often the kids don’t know capitalize them for improving their own lives. Lack of goals in a point at the end of the tunnel, a dream that meet. They live the present and often just full of problems.

A much more adult and mature series is of what would seem at first. You laugh with Nathan while half the time you want to throw it under a bus, and suffer systematic bullying received Simon at all times.
The following season however change of character as a strong point. In the second, Alisha and Simon will be the central point of the evolution and changes of the characters against a Nathan who loses charisma, depth and sympathy.
And in general, in the third season, with the loss of one of the characters, the series falls into a terrible decline supported by fairly solid plot inconsistencies which end up destroying anyone who see it and having half neuron in the head.
Our recommendation? Keep the first. Imagine how it may end. You do not see beyond the half of the second season. Protect yourselves, take care and enjoy the early. It is what we call “Effect Prison Break”, the first was great… the rest lost bellows to the point where Raccord jumps out to us by the ears.
