The Curious Expedition is a roguelike of the old school that we engage for hours
It’s a roguelike with 8-bit graphics style game. Although graphically, The Curious Expedition, plays its role because the aesthetics being sought by developers, perhaps is in a quality below the paragraph sound, being practically non-existent, rarely accompanies us background music and the sounds of nature are poor and scarce.
The Curious Expedition divided into six episodes. In each of them, our goal will be to find the pyramid of gold in each region. We find it a compass that shows your position. Really the compass not is completely accurate but as more explore the area more it will be.
The bad thing is that in addition to pyramids, we can enter us with others, say, surprises… Both you can find with mosquitoes, tigers or even dinosaurs! But we also find other villages with which we trade, or even recruit any of its inhabitants.
The Curious Expedition allows us to recreate important discoveries of the 19th century, whether they are real or fiction of the time.
In this game, The Curious Expedition, we will have the possibility of incarnate to 17 personalities of the century 19 and 20. Among them we find adventurers, such as Richard Francis Burton or Freya Star. Also important characters in the story such as Madame Curie or Nikola Tesla.
At the beginning of the game only you can use three characters and others unlocked as we carry out a particular action, e.g. Nikola Tesla becomes playable character after using dynamite.
We started each expedition of The Curious Expedition with a preparation phase. In it choose the place of issue, climate and various places of interest that we are going to visit. He is proposing a range of recruitment. We will have the opportunity to buy materials to facilitate us expedition, provided we can afford them. Nor is anything but essential if help on occasion. He is also proposing a secondary mission. We will reject it if we want it will bring us benefits in case of it, but it will also penalize failing it.
After this phase will have the expedition itself, our goal will be to find the pyramid. We will start with completely hidden map, as we are going to investigate the place we can reveal more areas to access them. In this part it is also where we meet villages, tombs, treasures , and many dangers such as dinosaurs mentioned.
At the end we return to Britain and there you can choose again between three advantages, some characters between five advantages. This will allow us to decide if we prefer that our character is a skilled fighter, a large Expeditionary or more balanced overall.
Making exchanges with indigenous peoples in The Curious Expedition
As we go forward in the expedition we will find all kinds of people, from natives to missionaries or slaves. In talking with them can Exchange objects, which have a certain value depending on with whom you are making the barter, for example being the most valuable spirit for a missionary than for a slave.
Sometimes we get also profitable to exchanges in which we went out losing to earn the trust of the other. This allows, for example, that certain people of the town are willing to join us in our adventure if before people’s trust we have earned that way.
In conclusion, The Curious Expedition is a roguelike with a care pixelart, but limping a little noise. It’s an entertaining game, but after a while it becomes repetitive, since our mission is always the same, investigate, obtain resources, Exchange resources and find the Golden Pyramid, but is still able to entertain us for hours.
